Bulletin Box With the season now in full swing I am very pleased with our four FECs (at Weston, Burnham on Sea and Ilfracombe). All four venues have been reequipped with particular emphasis on children’s ‘ticket redemption’ prize machines and these are proving a big hit with the holiday makers.
At our inland AGC venues Steve Lawrence and his new Operations team are now getting up into top gear on all fronts and again this is having a very positive effect on the business. Similarly Kevin Hamilton and his Beacon Bingo team are producing some great results, not only at the Club venues but also in terms of our on-line ‘BeaconBingo on-line’ web site.
When we bought Beacon we were confident that we would be able to identify considerable synergies between the two businesses and this has been the case. Les Brydon, one of my former Regional Directors from Talarius has been working with us on a consultancy basis, spearheading the integration of the two businesses and this initiative is going well.
When we purchased Beacon there was a live deal to sell the Streatham Bingo club to a private operator. Having reviewed the club and its potential we decided to abort this deal and we are now working hard to breathe new life into the business in Streatham and to allow the Club to reach its potential earnings targets. This is starting to come through now and the venue will now make a serious contribution to group EBITDA.

Cashino Takes the High Road
Cashino, the UK’s newest chain of Adult Gaming Centres will soon be open for business in Scotland. Owners, Praesepe plc this week concluded an agreement to purchase four sites from the sequestrators for an undisclosed sum. The sites, which previously operated as AGC’s under the Silver Reels name, are all situated in the Edinburgh area and are currently not trading.
Heralding the acquisition, Jonathon Hughes, managing director of Praesepe’s AGC division, said: “We are delighted to have a presence in Edinburgh, a city which the Praesepe team knows well. Our plan is to re-open the site in Nicholson Street, Edinburgh in time for the Christmas trading period, with the remaining three going live in the first quarter of next year.”
Praesepe plc, formerly Aldgate Capital plc, was admitted to AIM on 11 April 2006 with a broad strategy to acquire and manage companies and businesses across a variety of gaming sectors. It began its pan-European strategy of creating a leading low stake high volume gaming group in July with the £25m acquisition of 31 AGCs from HJM Caterers. Praesepe’s intention is to create a portfolio incorporating slots, sports/pool betting, bingo and online gaming operations with earnings of £50m by 2010. Key target markets include the UK, Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Netherlands and Germany. cashino_scot_pr1 (Word document)
